THE PADEL LOUNGE
Industry: Sports + Recreation
Location: Sydney, Australia
Scope: Brand Identity + Creative Direction
Project Type: Rebrand / Brand Refresh
The Padel Lounge is a premium padel club in Sydney, built around quality facilities, energetic play and a strong sense of community. With the business growing and looking towards larger brand partnerships and future expansion, the opportunity was to create an identity that matched its ambition. The project focused on developing a bold, high-energy visual identity inspired by sport, streetwear and club culture, creating a distinctive and wearable brand that stands out beyond the court and gives players something they're proud to be part of.

OVERVIEW
The Padel Lounge is a premium padel club in Sydney that was already building a strong reputation for its facilities, atmosphere and community. With the business growing and looking to expand across the East Coast, as well as attract larger sponsors and brand partnerships, it felt like the right time to give the brand a refresh. For me, the opportunity wasn't just about making the logo look better. It was about creating an identity that reflected the energy of the club and gave people something they actually wanted to be associated with. One thing that really stood out in the brief was that they wanted to be a brand people were proud to wear, and I think that's such an important distinction. Because at that point, we're not just talking about a sports venue anymore, we're talking about creating a culture around a brand. The challenge was to make The Padel Lounge feel premium and established without losing the fun, competitive and social side that makes people want to come back.

PROCESS
I wanted to move away from the typical sporting club identity and create something that felt a little more unexpected. Rather than leaning entirely into traditional sports branding, I started looking at streetwear, retro sporting graphics, gaming culture and the kind of visual language you'd expect from a lifestyle brand. The thinking was simple: if people are going to proudly wear your brand outside of the club, it needs to look good outside of that environment too. I also didn't want to completely disconnect the new identity from what they'd already built, especially since their physical spaces were designed around their existing colours. So I kept that connection through the blue, but introduced a much punchier lime green to give everything more energy and contrast. The logo itself was designed to feel fast and full of movement, with tilted lettering, sharp edges and a strong emphasis on the P, including details inspired by the padel racket and ball. I then developed supporting marks, a mascot and a broader graphic system to give the brand more personality and flexibility. The idea was to create something that could work just as well on a court wall as it would on a jersey, towel, social post or future collaboration with a major sponsor. Every element had a purpose, but together they needed to feel like one recognisable brand world.

OUTCOME
The result is a much bolder and more expressive identity that gives The Padel Lounge its own visual personality. It's sporty without looking like every other sports club, playful without feeling childish, and premium without becoming too serious or exclusive. What I love about this direction is that it doesn't rely on the full business name being everywhere to feel recognisable. The monogram, colours, typography and mascot all have enough character to start building recognition independently, which is exactly what you want from a brand that's planning to grow. The identity also creates opportunities beyond court bookings, particularly when it comes to merchandise, events, sponsorships and collaborations. Instead of having a logo that simply identifies the business, The Padel Lounge now has a visual system designed to build familiarity, create a sense of belonging and give people something they actually want to wear and represent. For me, that's where good creative direction makes the difference. It's about seeing what a business could become and creating a brand that gives it room to get there.
